Jesus told it like it was.
Luke 4: 18- 21 In the synagogue he read before the congregation “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.”
With this reading, Jesus proclaimed His ministry. The people in the synagogue understood Him to be saying that He was the promised messiah. As we will see a little later on, the people violently rejected His message. I see Jesus’ example here to be an example of standing up for the truth no matter what the consequences. Some times in my life, especially as a parent, I have had to tell hard truths—be the grown-up. I wondered if the loved one would ever speak to me again because of what I had to say. I am grateful to report that in my experience, the truth, spoken with love was eventually received and the relationship was strengthened. While I waited for things to play out, I was comforted to know that I was following Jesus’ example.
